The differences: Not Feeling Good Enough, Low Self-Esteem, Low Self-Worth

Exploring the differences between not feeling good enough, low self-esteem, and low self-worth, and how each can impact our sense of self.

Low Self-Worth

Low self-worth is a deeper feeling in which you believe that you’re not deserving of love or happiness. It’s not about what you achieve but how you see your inherent value. Even though this belief can feel overwhelming, changing and recognising your true worth is possible.

Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem means consistently seeing yourself in a negative light. You might doubt your abilities, feel unworthy of success, or believe you don’t deserve happiness. These thoughts can hold you back, but they’re not permanent. With the right support, self-esteem can be restored and strengthened

Not Feeling Good Enough

If you often feel like you’re not good enough, it can be exhausting. This feeling might come from comparing yourself to others or having extremely high expectations of yourself. It’s a common experience but doesn’t define your true worth. You are more than your doubts.

Signs You’re Struggling with Low Confidence and Self-Worth

Exploring how feelings of inadequacy can shape your mindset, influence your actions, and diminish your overall sense of self-worth.

  • Negative Self-Talk: Constantly criticising yourself and focusing on perceived failures and flaws.
  • Perfectionism: Setting unrealistically high standards for yourself and feeling like a failure when you don’t meet them.
  • Fear of Rejection: Avoiding social situations or work opportunities due to the fear of rejection, embarrassment, or criticism.
  • Difficulty Accepting Compliments: Dismissing or downplaying praise, believing it’s undeserved.
  • People-Pleasing: Prioritising others’ needs over your own to gain approval or acceptance.
  • Relationships: Struggling to form or maintain healthy relationships due to self-doubt and fears of inadequacy.
  • Career Growth: Hesitating to pursue new opportunities or challenges because of a lack of confidence.
  • Mental Health: Increased risk of anxiety, depression, and social isolation as a result of low self-worth.

For as long as I can remember, I have doubted myself and looked for the reassurance of others. Carol recommended RTT as this would get to the root cause of why I carried so much self-doubt. I’ve had a lot of therapy in the past, including hypnotherapy, but I have never experienced anything like RTT. The session lasted 2 ½ hours and was tough in parts, but the change I have experienced since the session has been phenomenal. Giving myself self-praise and kindness would have seemed alien to me, but now I know I deserve it. I chose Carol as a therapist as I knew that she was committed to supporting me through this journey, and she did this with kindness and professionalism. I highly recommend RTT to anyone who doubts their own abilities; despite past experiences, we can achieve whatever we want in life.

When I went into the RTT session, not feeling good enough was the norm for me. Since then, there has been a clear shift in my perspective, which has changed my relationship with myself and with others around me. Carol is an experienced therapist, which was evident as she guided the session seamlessly throughout. Since the RTT session, I have listened to the recording and know that Carol is always there if I need extra support.
